Members of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Palm Beach County are a dynamic mix of volunteers and professionals who meet monthly to support and encourage breastfeeding in our community. Our monthly meetings are an opportunity to be informed on the latest research and evidence based practices, share expertise and challenges in following national guidelines, and build advocacy for breastfeeding families.

Our mission is to ensure a strong, positive climate of breastfeeding promotion, education and support through continued coordination of
activities utilizing varied resources and a cooperative network of
community individuals, organizations and agencies

The goals of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Palm Beach County are:

  • To increase the incidence and duration of breastfeeding by identifying and solving
    problems through effective community networking.
  • To improve community awareness and positive attitudes about breastfeeding by
    providing access to varied resources and factual information via the media.
  • To improve area health professionals' breastfeeding promotion, assessment and
    management skills
    by identifying needs and providing access to professional education.
  • To improve the national, state and county level of breastfeeding support by recognizing
    and coordinating approved activities supporting:
    • Healthy People 2010 National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
      Breastfeeding Objectives
    • 2005 American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement Breastfeeding and
      the use of Human Milk
    • United States" implementation of the World Health Organization's Code of
      Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes
    • WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative
    • U.S. Breastfeeding Committee Goals & Strategies
