Palm Beach County Breastfeeding Task Force

About Us

Our History

The Breastfeeding Coalition of Palm Beach County was founded in 1992 in Palm Beach County in order to celebrate locally the "First Annual World Breastfeeding Week" sponsored by the World Alliance For Breastfeeding Action.  The Coalition includes members representing maternal/child health agencies, hospitals, childbirth educators, lactation consultants, non-profit organizations, businesses and breastfeeding mothers.  The Coalition has been active ever since and it has successfully completed many projects in our continuing effort to raise public awareness of the many benefits of breastfeeding.

Our Purpose

Our mission is to ensure a strong, positive climate of breastfeeding promotion, education and support through continued coordination of activities utilizing varied resources and a cooperative network of community individuals, organizations and agencies.

Our Goals

The goals of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Palm Beach County are:

  1. To increase the incidence and duration of breastfeeding by identifying and solving problems through effective community networking.

  2. To improve community awareness and positive attitudes about breastfeeding by providing access to varied resources and factual information via the media.

  3. To improve area health professionals' breastfeeding promotion, assessment and management skills by identifying needs and providing access to professional education.

  4. To improve the national, state and county level of breastfeeding support by recognizing and coordinating approved activities supporting:

    1. the Healthy People 2010 National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Breastfeeding Objectives

    2. the 2005 American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement Breastfeeding and the use of Human Milk

    3. the United States" implementation of the World Health Organization's Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes
